Kindness

According to the Buddhist notion of kindness, karuna is somewhat different from the Western notion of kindness, in which one separate human being, out of an abundance of individual generosity, gives to another separate human being. Rather, karuna implies that we all are part of the same ever-changing universe. Deep down, the individual is not really different from anyone or anything else.
To be kind to others is actually to be kind to oneself.
Karuna in action simply means living out this awareness of the unity of the universe. With this perception of the interrelatedness of all beings, compassion comes naturally.
If I am kind, my kindness must be shown towards anything that can feel pain.
